Hey Ya'll ,
Felt like I needed to greet you with some southern charm since this review is about BbQ!
Hops on the Hill baby is for real! Nice bar pub style joint with nice selection of sitting. High tops, tables, or seat at the bar and watch the games. Looks like they also have a karaoke night or live music. Anyway, let's get to the food. We ordered a variety of food.
Smoked Chicken wings with I believe is a house made ranch ooohh yeah! So good... the chicken was juicy grilled and smoked by a pro.
Potato soup and grilled bread. Hmmm soup was creamy and hearty. Comes with all the fixings like cheese, bacon, etc yup. Making your mouth water!
Next, was the bbq plate. They offer several sauces that you will have a hard time choosing which one is better. I chose the sliced brisket and chopped brisket for my daughter. The sliced brisket was juicy, easy to cut, full of smoky flavor, and nice thick cut. I keep telling you all that PNW is coming through with their bbq. This plate came with sides. I chose potato salad & baked beans. All of it a hit sheesh. Also has a side of pickles and white onion with slices of white bread.
But what was really special is their cole slaw and cucumber salad! I never tasted anything like this. It was zesty, fresh, and light. Perfect kick and seasoning. My hubby ordered seconds. We were so full he had to go walk it off.
If you are in Tumwater please make it a part of your day or night to show some love to this great place. I know you will not be disappointed!

On our way back home, we stopped in, and we were so glad we did. It's a cute little pub that is, in fact, on the hill. He ordered the Smoked Brisket Mac & Cheese bowl, and that may have been the best brisket we've had in quite some time. I ordered the @StPatricksDay special - a Rueben sandwich made with some amazingly delicious corned beef on golden toasted Rye bread. I also had an old fashioned which was well made, and he had a sour from Pfreim.
The staff was friendly and attentive. The dining area is nice looking with a rustic collection of hard hewn woods. The parking lot is decently sized. They have an outdoor dining area that appears to be only one seasonally. The restroom was clean and well kept. All in all, a great shop for a weekend lunch.Helpful 2Thanks 2Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 24, 2024Updated review3 check-ins
It's been a few years since I have eaten at Hops on the Hill and I am kicking myself for waiting so long to go back. Previously when we went they only served beer and cider, and I don't drink either so we just never went back. But now they served mixed drinks as well.
The food is outstanding! Every bite had me doing a happy dance in my seat. The brisket has so much smoky, yummy flavor. It is some of the best brisket anywhere around. And the cucumber salad was perfection.
My husband talked about this food for an entire week. We cannot wait to go back!
I love the ambiance of this place as well. It is small, quaint, and relaxing.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Sep 9, 2020Previous reviewCame across this place by accident.....and what a score to find! It's a small joint but the food is excellent. The cuisine is mostly BBQ and they are excellent at it. They have a nice variety of side dishes. We have tried them all and every one of them is amazingly delicious! We really enjoyed the trash can nachos as well. So much cheesy goodness! Excellent selection of beer and ciders as well.

Enjoyed some lunch and beers at Hops on the Hill last Saturday, I got the brisket sandwich and cucumber salad. Both were great! I had two beers which were both enjoyable as well. The only reason I went with 4 stars is because on a Saturday just after noon they only had one server and this poor woman was slammed! Making the service sub par (not the servers fault).

I. Love. This. Place.
I seriously try to spread the love around but I can't help but find my way back here at least twice a month. (I could make it here 5 days a week since I live up the street). I have to try to NOT come here more often.
I work in a restaurant, full disclosure... but dammit the French 75 and PULLED PORK are AMAZING!
It's casual and neighborhoodihsh.
Everyone that works here is great with handling the business regardless of busy or slower times... knowing when to engage with guests and when to let you enjoy your time alone.
I appreciate how hard you all work to make sure everyone is happy.
Special mention to the Caesar salad. Sorry I didn't get pictures this trip. I was hungry.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Sep 27, 2023Previous reviewOkay... you can say I'm a fan of this place. I've been here a bunch for the yummy French 75s but this is the second time trying the food.
(I worked at a gourmet bbq place in SoCal and the food was so good)... so far the meats I've tried are great.
Pulled pork is my favorite especially with the Carolina style sauce. I also really love the spicy Marion berry sauce.
I have yet to try the rib but that'll happen soon.
The bruschetta is always good for a light bite! Service is always fast and friendly. Music vibes and sports on tv.
Lots of regulars from the community too.Jul 14, 2023Previous reviewFood, Service and Ambiance...
Honestly I've been here when it's busy but I prefer to come in when there isn't busy because, SERVICE.
I've been lucky enough to get the same bartender for my visits. Arisa, She's knowledgeable, asks questions and knows what to suggest for me.
Her regulars know her and come in to see her... it's hard not to notice these things. BBQ is amazing and I'm picky so that says a lot.
The cocktail list has something for everyone, infused spirits which I love because they aren't sweetened with sickly syrups... the infusions being out the natural sweetness in fruits. If you like sparkling... you MUST try the French 75! I'm obsessed.
Blueberry infused gin & Hibiscus infused gin. Hibiscus is hitting today nicely.
Also the cherry lemon bourbon old fashion was another winner for the summer cocktail menu.
Super clean and plenty of parking. A small patio if you want to be outside. Doesn't feel urban, a great spot in the neighborhood with plenty of locals to feel like you belong.
Fantastic find for a newbie like me to the area. - Mar 1, 2023
Cute little spot.
I had the smoked turkey sandwhich was very flavorful. Sandwhich came with 1 side so I got Mac n cheese. That was a little dry.
My favorite sauce of theirs was the Carolina.
They do not brew their own beer but plenty of local options.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Feb 26, 2023
Very small place but large on flavor. The BBQ brisket sandwich (on brioche) was delicious. They have 3 flavors of BBQ sauce: tex-mex, carolina, and spicy. Spicy was my favorite.
Waitress was very friendly. The mac and cheese side (7oz) was okay. It was kind of dry. Wish it was hotter and cheese was softer. All in all 4/5.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Oct 19, 2022
I don't usually review a place after one visit, but we tried a lot of the menu and staff were great!
If I recall correctly, there were 3 employees (all male) working. All three were super chill and engaging. My date commented on how friendly our server was without feeling fake. Totally agree. I would totally be his neighbor.
Anyway. Food. What you really wanna hear about.
Nachos - so yum! I would come here just for nachos and a beer. I will say, don't bother paying extra for brisket. There wasn't much on there.
Pulled pork - so yum! Not dry and good flavor
Half rack of ribs - I'm assuming they were delicious because he didn't offer to share lol
Creamed corn - pretty yummy!
Potato salad - meh. Not my favorite. But you might like it!
Mac n cheese - dry and not very flavorful. Ate it with my pulled pork and it added life to it.
Cornbread muffins - you get two! They sounded hard. :/ He said they were dry and only ate one.
Meats were out of this world! Sides were ok. Great tap list. Chill atmosphere. I'll definitely be back. (They have other sides to try and I'm optimistic!)Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 2 - 33776May 28, 2023
Great authentic BBQ and fast service
Love that this spot is on the way to/from Ocean Shores, it's definitely going to become a guilty pleasure going to the beach and then getting some brisket on the way back
LOVED the brisket and pulled pork (both were soft and juicy); my boyfriend and I shared a 2 meat plate and it was more than enough food.
The soft pretzels are also a great bite, super soft and fluffy!
The decor and music set a very fun yeehaw ambiance which was a unique experience for me
Pros:
* fast service and food!
* authentic delicious BBQ
* decent price; a 2 meet plate was $33 which my partner and I shared amongst ourselves and it was more than enough food for us both
* for my drink girlies and guyos, they have all day happy hours on Saturday
Cons:
* the location can be out of the way depending on where you're locatedHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Savanna G.Olympia, WA079Feb 17, 2024
As an Olympia transplant from Kansas City I know a thing or two about good BBQ and this place is the BEST I've had out here!! Smoky, sweet flavors, tender meat, smothered nachos, great sides, and great beer too. Highly recommend!
