Since we moved to the Lacey/Olympia area, I've been trying restaurants trying to find our new "go to" places in various genres.
I was looking for a good sandwich shop, and what I had in mind was an Italian or New York or Philly transplant who had a deli with genuine hoagie rolls (IYKYK) and gets upset if you ask to customize your sandwich.
What Google and Yelp pointed me towards was Canna Cabana. Its menu was fun and funky and I decided to give it a whirl expecting nothing more than a novelty gas station sandwich.
I could not have been more wrong! I went to the drive-thru location on Marvin (I understand they have a dine-in on Yelm) to give them a try.
Lexi helped me, and was polite, helpful, prompt, and not trying to rush me as I perused the menu. She answered my questions and made recommendations, and asked about how I heard of them and where we were in the area, so A+ on service.
I went with their signature sub, the Super Dank, with crushed nacho Doritos and jalapeño cheese bread.
I don't know if they slice meat to order, but they have a slicer and you can tell the meat was at least sliced fresh. Also not sure if they bake their bread in such a small shop, but it too tasted fresh and while it wasn't an East Coast hoagie roll, it had a just-right fluffiness and chewiness, which so many places seem to struggle with.
The drive-thru only spot has two windows to order/pick up from. There isn't a ton of room to line up, so no idea how they might handle a rush, but at 1:30 pm I only had one person behind me. I can describe the building's vibe as "cute meets hole-in-the-wall."
The sandwich making process took at most five minutes, and it was still warm when I got home, and neither the chips nor bread had gotten soggy, so magic, I guess.
Not only will I be back, but when my family visits we are always trying to find great picnic food, and this will be the first place we go to next time around.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Janai C.Tacoma, WA17194272Mar 9, 2024
This sub shop is in a perfect location
Get a car wash and sandwich. We come here at least once a month and each time sandwiches are decent. However, I've noticed that with each person who is working makes them differently. I still would rate at 4 stars just because I like the sandwiches so much. The menu is large and you make additions to the sandwiches. Wish I had a picture, i'll add next time I go but the cheese jalapeño bread is delicious and not too thick. This is a great spot.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 10278148Oct 31, 2023Updated review
The sandwiches with chicken and Turkey were the same price. No need to charge $2.50. Poor excuse.

Hey:) I’m so sorry there was a confusion on your order. Sometimes my employees get confused but I’ve explained to them a bunch about how substitutions work. If your switching the meat for a higher priced meat it’s .75 and if your adding chicken to a sandwich it’s $2.50-$3.00 which is quite cheap compared to the other sandwich shops around. Either way I’m sorry this happened to you and for the mishap. I’ve retrained my employees when it comes to this type of situation so it doesn’t happen again. I hope you did enjoy the food and hope to see you again.
Jun 18, 2023Previous reviewGood: food tastes good- typical subs, but they have some unique combos, which leads me to..... I was charged $2.50 for choosing CHICKEN on a $7.75 sub INSTEAD OF turkey. I was also charged 50¢ for a substitution. $3.00 charge on a $7.75 sandwich. A half sandwich for $10.75!!!!! They do this often apparently, because 'we don't usually do substitutions'..... had I known I was going to be charged 32% of my sandwich to change what meat I chose, I wouldn't have done it. I brought up how much sense it DOESN'T MAKE since a Turkey sandwich costs the exact same as one with chicken. I asked to speak to the one who makes these decisions and was told he was on the phone now... I waited 15 minutes for my sandwich & 1/2 to be made then was charged $27 for them. When I resisted, I was told oh sorry- he'll refund the 2.50- that was a mistake. We charge 75¢ for substitutions. Ok whatever. It'll be reflected in my "bank account in a few days." We shall see. $27 for a sandwich and a half. Holy Toledo. Never again. Hope I see my money.
Dec 30, 2022Previous reviewHad a Reese's shake- they use real ice cream and milk. It was good, nothing thrilling...it's a milkshake. Service was friendly and fast. It was expensive. $5.50 for 16oz.

Cute drive up stand! The offer a sub sandwich, shakes and other treats. The two ladies working were super friendly and had great welcoming attitudes even as the line started to really grow. We really enjoyed our sandwiches and will definitely stop again when in the area

My sandwich was delicious and the server was able and willing to accommodate my food allergy. I had no health issues after eating what I ordered.

Yummy sandwich!! I got the veggie and my husband got the blue dream which he said was awesome! I appreciate the fact that the sandwiches are freshly made and not premade so I definitely understand having to wait a while for them which for me was no big deal since my husband and I were just out and about. We were there for about 10 min, 3 cars on one window, and we were the only one on the other side. The guy working was so kind and a fast worker!! I wish my sandwich was more put together but hey, he was the only person so that's just a my thing lol. Other than that, my husband and I will for sure be back!!

Just trued Canna Cabana Subs & Shakes not a bad little spot. My husband and I both got a sub and a shake. They have half and full subs. The half sub is a perfect size. I tried the house shake it was pretty good, very very sweet.
I also trued the OG blt, it was pretty good I liked that they have avocado on it. I'd rate the sandwich 8/10 and shake 6/10. They charge if you pay with card.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mandee P.Carthage, NC484723Mar 18, 2023
Hands down my favorite place to get a sub sandwich. Got off of work today and came straight to Canna Cabana for my go to sandwich - The fire with extra wow sauce on cheddar jalapeño - Toasted. And Super dank for my kiddos. They never let us down. Customer service is always friendly and on top of it, never once have they forgotten anything out of our sub's.
For those who have never been, it's a small drive thru shop - always freshly made and the owners are usually the ones I see when I come by - sometimes only one person is working so if you have no patience and are rude, I would suggest you either learn how to be patient and some manners because this place is well worth the wait. I'm going to be sad once we move out of town because I have yet to find a place that has subs that satisfy my taste buds.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
